Having seen Seattle’s Fleet Foxes played outdoors in the warm dusk of southern California earlier this year, it was impossible not to be stirred by their sweet sounding harmonies. With their hearty serving of alt.country, gothic Americana and gospel spirituals, I took to calling them “The Oneders”, like from the movie 'That Thing You Do'. But I'm not the only one hailing this indie/folk band. Three months later and others are still describing them as “America’s next great band” or “guaranteed to make the second half of 2009 great”.
Unfortunately, all these descriptions are only going to leave anyone who listens to this album without having first seen Fleet Foxes onstage coolly underwhelmed. Not because it’s impossible to find the same sonic salvation (clever alliteration), but because you have to wade through a lot of plaid-shirted, porch-rocking psychedelia before you get there. They are an experience meant to be felt live in concert. The spirituality and tranquility of their shows are truly mesmerizing. Explore new music. Experience the Fleet Foxes.

Scott,
ReplyDeleteAlthough I have never heard of the Fleet Foxes, I would have to agree with you and say that music is also my soul. It is what calms me down or what pumps me up when needed. I saw your post on my blog and I would have to agree that our farmville rap is goofy and dumb haha
Scott i think you should do a blog about country music. If want some good testers. look up... my last name dierks bently. or whatever it is by Zac Brown Band. Or a song by Kenny Chesney titled "the Good Stuff". Trust me you will be surpirsed how good country can be
